Due to the precarious placement at the bottom of the list, this is an album that I haven’t done for the sake of future-proofing. However, I ended my last 1001 songs post on the thought that if Tago Mago was anything like their later song ‘Future Days’ that I would probably love it. So here we are.
Let’s get this out of the way right now – Tago Mago and ‘Future Days’ do not have a lot in common. Where the later track is an experimental precursor to ambient, Tago Mago is just a massive experiment. The whole album came out of one of the members secretly recording their jamming sessions and then putting everything together.
The resulting album is a real mish-mash of psychedelic rock, avant-garde, funk, jazz and a whole mess of other genres. There is a lot of things that are interesting, but maybe not the best music to be listening to when writing code – apart from ‘Mushroom’, that was a really good track.
Right, so I won’t be leaving it another month before I listen to my next album from the list. I guess that’s what happens when you get super into podcasts – really eats into my regular music listening time. Also, I’m in the market for other podcasts if anyone has any suggestions.
