When I wrote my post for the previous (somewhat out of place) season of Gintama I, like most people, thought that this Silver Soul arc would be the final season. Obviously this has been proven not to be the case – with the final episode of the ‘final season’ ending in a courtroom skit to apologise for leading people on for the last 3 years. It’s a funny way to deal with how the audience (an apparently the anime studio) has been misled.
However, this scene (much like the final few episodes) were really an anti-climactic way to finish an incredibly action packed season. Sure, it stayed true to the core stupid comedic spirit of Gintama that a lot of us have gotten to know and love – but I probably would have enjoyed that scene a lot more if I hadn’t gone into the final run of episodes as being the ending.
Oh well, Gintama lives to fight another day and I am loving the time jump that they have put in following the end of the massive battle. To be honest this did threaten to be a dip in quality, much like with how Bleach continued past the final battle with Aizen, but it would appear that the writer of Gintama has a proper game plan for the continuation.
Now, much like with Bleach I am not entirely sure where Gintama is with regards to there future episodes. I hope that there will be as I am interested to see where things are going (and I would miss the characters if they were never to return), but if it isn’t another season – I guess it would give me a good chance to revisit the series at some point in the future.
